LA NOTTE DE IL TERZO GIORNO

PARMA, SATURDAY 26 MAY. A SPECIAL EVENING.

On the evening and night of May 26 the centre of Parma will host a series of cultural events related to the Third Day exhibition, open until July 1 at the Governor’s Palace.
Davines is the sponsor of The Night of the Third Day together with the municipality of Parma, as a gift to the City recently named Italy’s 2020 Capital of Culture.
This cultural event offers visitors and the citizens of Parma a theatrical machine with small and big events connected with each other and inspired by the suggestive theme of the moon. The evening’s trail has many stops in various spaces in the city’s historical centre that for this occasion will open the doors of many venues rich in charm and beauty, even the most secret ones. On the night of May 26, Parma will become an extended stage with the extraordinary opening of museums, private palaces and shores.

THE PROGRAMME

1) “IL TERZO GIORNO” EXHIBITION

Palazzo del Governatore,
Piazza Garibaldi 19
Time: 10.00 AM – 10.30 PM (special opening)
ilterzogiorno.it
Guided visits available upon reservation

The Third Day exhibition offers the city a new and unexpected insight on the topic of sustainability, where scientific environmentalist denunciation is replaced by evocative and poetic narration. The exhibition takes visitors through a cathartic journey that begins with the third day of Genesis, the birth of nature and plant species (Genesis 1:9), and goes through creation, destruction, overcoming, and nihilism, up to the return to nature with a palingenesian pattern that follows sensations. This exhibition reflects, through the work of artists of different background and generations, on the impacts suffered in present times by the planet and the people who live on it, so that this awareness can generate a virtuous circle of hope and commitment.

Where
IL PALAZZO DEL GOVERNATORE

Originally built on the north side of piazza Nuova (today, Piazza Garibaldi) between 1283 and 1285 and called “Traders Palace”, it was restructured following the collapse of the very tall civic Tower on 27 January1606, which caused also the destruction of the Municipal Palace. In 1760 court architect Ennemond Alexandre Petitot was commissioned with rearranging the square. The Governor’s Palace was restructured in elegant neoclassic style with the addition of typical decorative elements, and a central niche was opened. In 1829, Duchess Marie Louise ordered the great meridians built on the façade.

Where
PARMA DUOMO

The Cathedral of Parma has been for 900 years a place of art, history and sanctity. Here are kept Benedetto Antelami’s bas-relief, testament of Romanesque art and Correggio’s grandiose frescos. To its side is the Baptistery: designed by Antelami himself and built between 1196 and 1216, one of most important monuments of the passage from Romanesque to the early Gothic styles. It is an octagonal structure in pink marble from Verona, striking for its majesty and rich decorations. In the interior we can admire the cycle of sculptures representing the months, alcoves decorated with frescos and the enormous domed ceiling, decorated during the 1230, representing in a triumph of colours the religious vision of the Middle Ages.
